Ever get tired of the same old routine? We wake up, put our faces on, go through everything in our closets and still have NOTHING to wear, get to work (hopefully earlier but most likely a few minutes late), hustle and grind for 8-10 hours (#girlbosses), go home, order take out, look at the time and hate that it's already 11PM, dreading going to sleep because that just makes tomorrow come faster, take off our face, hop into our satin pjs, and knock the F out. Then it's REWIND all over again.
Well we really need to stop wasting time and find that Work/Life balance everyone always boasts about.
As the great female writer, Mary Shelley, so expertly quoted, " The beginning is always today".
#girlbosses shouldn't take on just any hobby simply to have a hobby. These hobbies should not only enrich our lives with knowledge, but assist with building the confidence and self love we all deserve. In a generation of immense diversity and separation, we really need to practice the art of taking care of ourselves before we take care of others.
So today, our fellow beautiful and talented readers, I'm going to share with you all 5 hobbies/activities we can consider. Trust me, I've been talking and researching about these for the past 5 years. I'm practically a professional by now. Ready?
1) Pole Dancing Lessons
As I like to say, we ALL have a little s*** in us. And what better way to embrace that than a little pole dancing session. A few years ago, I took an Intro to Pole class at Body & Pole in NYC
and boy did it work me out. My entire body (including my face, although I'm not sure why) was in pain for the next few days. Who knew a metal pole could work me out like that. Body & Pole was by far the most affordable I've found in busy midtown. If you're in the local area, definitely check it out. The classes are intimate and spacious and the teachers were professionally trained. Sadly, now that I've moved to Los Angeles, I'm not too sure where to go. My friend suggested Evolve Dance Studio
so I may try that next. If you already know of any fun studios, let me know in the comments below please!
2) Spa Day
This photo was of my trip last year to Koh Samui, Thailand. It was probably one of the best trips of my life. The main reason for it was definitely the daily (sometimes 2 times a day) $16 massages we all got right on the beach. I truly believe the best way to take care of ourselves, both mentally and physically, is through taking care of ourselves. Not only do we need body massages, facials are a must as well. No amount of facial cream could hide the tiredness in our faces. And ladies, as vain as I probably sound right now, we depend on our faces more than men do. So take care of it! I recently went to Glen Ivy Hot Springs
with the girls' and absolutely loved it! If ever you just need a day away from the chaos and want to enjoy all different kinds of natural hot springs, check this day spa out.
3) Travel once a year
"20 years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain
We know only what we learned growing up, experienced as we grew into our own person, and adjusted as we blended into our surroundings. The only way to truly see is to travel and educate ourselves on the world outside of what we know. Traveling by far is the most enriching experience I believe we will ever have. Make the effort to travel once a year. No matter the circumstances. The lesson you will learn is worth all the money in the world. Trust me.
When our daily routine gets old, or when we feel like everything is going wrong, get up, dress up and dance girl! Let all that negative energy out on that dance floor and trust me, you'll feel like you're on top of the world again. Us females, we are faced with so many tribulations and yet we always come up on top. I truly credit that to us being able to say F*** it, call our girlfriends, sob over wine, and then get right back up to face tomorrow's bulls***.
5) Be Still
In a world of constant noise, we need to learn to take some time and just be still. Learn to be OK with just being with ourselves. Let go of all control and accept just being present. It's really the only control we have, so why not embrace it. Silence is a beautiful thing because it allows us to dig within ourselves and find answers we never thought we could find. Only then are we able to understand that there is good in everything. So take a minute, close your eyes, and just BE STILL.
